This club is a finely
carved/finished/detailed Traditional Samoan Paddle Club called an AMU'AMU
(in the Samoan language) which is embellished with the olden times design
patterns and carved in the shape almost identical to Samoan clubs which were
collect over 150 years in Samoa and are now in collections elsewhere (detailed
photos of one such old specimen in the bottom 3 photos). This Amu'amu club
was made from the local ironwood tree (IFILELE) and is therefore very heavy
in weight. It has very fine & skillfully done handcarved authentic traditional
designs on both sides and completely down the whole club. The dark color comes
from being placed in mangrove mud for a few days before carving the designs
on it.
