Headrest
No. 4 - Finely handcarved and finished TRADITIONAL HEADREST or ALI (in
the Samoan Language). It is made from the local Ironwood (Hardwood) tree
called IFILELE and is heavy in weight. It has VERY FINE & skillfully done handcarved
AUTHENTCAL TRADITIONAL designs around the base. The
dark color on the base comes from being placed in mangrove mud for a few days
before carving the designs on it and
the upper part has the natural wood patina which was polished with a Pig's Tusk.
. It
measures approximately 14" long, 5" high in the middle and 4"
wide.
