This club is a finely carved/finished/detailed
Traditional Samoan Toothed War Club called a LAPALAPA (in the
Samoan language) or Coconut Stock Club. It was made from the local ironwood
tree (Ifilele) and is therefore very heavy in weight. It has very fine & skillfully
done handcarved designs on both sides. These designs are traditional designs.
The dark color comes from being placed in mangrove mud for a few days before
carving the designs on it. There is a sennet wrap near the top, which is handmade
3-strand braided coconut fiber.
