This club is a finely carved/finished/detailed
Traditional Samoan War Club called a FA'ALAUTALIGA (in the Samoan language),
LAUTALIGA or Double Ear Club. It was made from the local ironwood tree (Ifilele)
and is therefore very heavy in weight. It has very fine & skillfully done
handcarved authentic traditional designs on both sides. The dark color comes
from being placed in mangrove mud for a few days before carving the designs
on it. There is a sennet wrap on the handle, which is handmade 3-strand braided
coconut fiber.
