This club is a Rare and very finely
carved/finished/detailed Traditional Samoan Toothed War Club called a HIGH
CHIEF'S NIFO OTI (in the Samoan language) or also called Teeth of Death
Club. The Nifo Oti club is the most authentic in design of the Samoan
war clubs and would have been what the highest chief would have taken into
battle with him with the long point being for the display of trophy heads.
This club is beautifully carved with the old traditionally intricate Samoan
designs from top to bottom all around (except the teeth). These designs are
very detailed, small and intricate.
This Club is made from the now very rare hardwood BAU WOOD which is
presently only surviving in a small area on the west end of Savaii Island.
It is a very hard, heavy and smooth-finished wood that has a slight reddish
color. In Olden Times, it is said that only the High Chief's war clubs were
made of Bau Wood. It is 48" long.
