This Graceful Samoan
Tanoa was handcarved from one piece of dense hardwood (IFILELE tree wood)
so is heavy. The carved designs on the inside of the bowl are very detailed.
Inside curve designs are more difficult to carve than outside designs. It
has the traditional, dark luster patina from burying it in mangrove mud for
a considerable time and then polishing it with a pig's tooth. In the 2nd bowl
the outer edge it is wrapped with handbraided 3-strand traditional sennet
which is the traditional handpounded and twisted fiber of the mature coconut
husk. These types of bowls can be ordered in Oval, Diamond or Round in shape.
Prices: The first bowl measures 11" wide and 4-1/2" high.

The second bowl measures 13" wide
and 5" high (deep). It is $115.00 (plus shipping).
The third bowl measures 17" wide and 6" high (deep). It is $175.00
(plus shipping)
