This club is a finely carved/finished/detailed
Traditional Samoan War Club called an UATOGI (in the Samoan language)
which is carved in the shape almost identical to Samoan clubs which were collect
over 150 years in Samoa and are now in collections elsewhere (copy of old
drawing). This UATOGI club was made from the local ironwood tree (IFILELE)
and is therefore very heavy in weight. It has very fine & skillfully done
handcarved authentic traditional designs on both sides and completely down
the whole club. The dark color comes from being placed in mangrove mud for
a few days before carving the designs on it.
There is a sennet wrap near the top, which is handmade 3-strand braided coconut
fiber. 36"
