This
club is a finely carved/finished/detailed Samoan War Club called an ULU MANU
(in the Samoan language means Animal Head). It was made from the local ironwood
tree (Ifilele) and is therefore very heavy in weight. It has very fine and skillfully
done handcarved authentic traditional designs on both sides and a spiral design
handle. The dark color is from being placed in mangrove mud for a few days before
carving the designs. There is a sennet wrap near the top, which is handmade
3-strand braided coconut fiber. This club measure 36" long.
